“You
will seek me and find me when you search for me with all your heart.”
Jeremiah
29:13
It is not in the words
of men but in the words of God, that we find hope.
It is not in the
kindness of people but in the mercy of God, that we find joy and lasting peace.
It is not in the works of others but in our own works that we find purpose.
Who can make such a promise?
Who can promise to
restore all that was lost?
Man has no such power,
words spoken but promises never kept.
Many of us are searching for God out in the world, we are searching for God in places and things, we are searching but God himself reminds us that we do not need to go looking very far, if we are willing to look within ourselves, if we are willing to look with eyes of faith and humbleness God can be found dwelling within the walls of our own heart.
A man travels the
world in search of peace, he travels the world in search of happiness and for a
moment, he is able to feel peace, for a moment he is able to feel joy but when
he returns home that happiness seems gone and that peace seems lost, but God
assures us that we do not have to go searching for him out in the world, we can
sit down and look within ourselves and He shall be found.
God was never lost, He is not an object, emotion or thing that needs to be guided, harnessed or acquired, but it is we who have lost our way.
Three men walk into a mine looking for diamonds but only one of them finds what he went looking for, the second comes out with a bag of coal and the third walks out muddy but empty handed. They worked the same hours and put in the same amount of work but where the two failed, the one prospered.
Many of us are like the three miners, some of us ask and do not receive, others ask for what they want but get only what they need and a handful of us get that which we desire. We’ve spent the same amount of time in prayer and we’ve prayed the same way but only one of us has received exactly what we prayed for.
Your heart is the
mine, your faith is the shovel and God can be found, if we are willing to dig
deep enough.
